TEGDMA and Bisphenol-A : the same level of risk in dental medicine ?

چکیده

Introduction It is legitimate to ask questions about the harmfulness of the components released from dental biomaterials like composite resins, adhesives and pit and fissure sealants. Recent studies show that monomers and co-monomers are released in solvents like water, ethanol or methanol, especially when submitting properly polymerized restorative biomaterials to stresses simulating chewing, in an effort to get closer to the clinical situation. All biomaterials do not behave in a similar manner and release different components, both in nature and in quantity. One of the co-monomers most commonly released by the composite resins, however, is TEGDMA, a co-monomer used to decrease the viscosity of the monomer forming the backbone of the composites: the Bisphenol A–diglycidylether methacrylate (Bis-GMA) (1).

Concomitant contact allergy to formaldehyde and methacrylic monomers in students of dental medicine and dental patients.

OBJECTIVES A multitude of acrylic monomers is used in dentistry. Formaldehyde is a ubiquitous chemical agent, which is an ingredient of some dental materials and may be released from methacrylate-based composites. The purpose of the study is to evaluate the incidence and the risk of cross-sensitization to some methacrylic monomers (methylmethacrylate - MMA, triethyleneglycol dimethacrylate - TE...

HPLC analysis of potentially harmful substances released from dental filing materials available on the EU market.

INTRODUCTION Incomplete cross-linking of composite dental materials leads to their susceptibility to degradation in the environment of non-organic and organic solvents, contributing to the release of chemical compounds which are potentially harmful to living organisms. OBJECTIVE The aim of the study was an evaluation in in vitro conditions of releasing of potentially toxic substances from six...

Monomers used in resin composites: degree of conversion, mechanical properties and water sorption/solubility.

The organic phase of resin composites is constituted by dimethacrylate resins, the most common monomers being the bisphenol A diglycidildimethacrylate (BisGMA), its ethoxylated version (BisEMA), triethylene glycol dimethacrylate (TEGDMA) and urethane dimethacrylate (UDMA). This study compared the homopolymers formed from the monomers used in restorative dental composites in terms of their degre...

Preparation of a Bis-GMA-Free Dental Resin System with Synthesized Fluorinated Dimethacrylate Monomers

With the aim of reducing human exposure to Bisphenol A (BPA) derivatives in dentistry, a fluorinated dimethacrylate monomer was synthesized to replace 2,2-bis[4-(2-hydroxy-3-methacryloy-loxypropyl)-phenyl]propane (Bis-GMA) as the base monomer of dental resin. After mixing with reactive diluent triethyleneglycol dimethacrylate (TEGDMA), fluorinated dimethacrylate (FDMA)/TEGDMA was prepared and c...

The induction of micronuclei in vitro by unpolymerized resin monomers.

Components of resin materials may damage DNA, leading to genetic alterations in mammalian cells. Here, monomers were analyzed for the induction of chromosomal aberrations indicated by micronuclei induced in V79 cells. A dose-related increase in the numbers of micronuclei was observed with triethyleneglycol dimethacrylate (TEGDMA), 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA), and glycidyl methacrylate (G...
